In mirrored plains, there’s always balking
and the lions and tigers are a hair’s breadth
away. Be stoic to glass that shines and to
the breathless vestiges of wine, where we
mould ourselves onto somebody else. Keep
hands cold and powdered to match knuckles
that wheeze under the pressure of holding
on: we are all scientists and it’s meant to be.
